Last night Annie and I were discussing the sanctity of marriage. “Marriage is not a relationship that develops out of convenience. It is an institution”, interrupted Mom. Mom gets along really well with all my friends. In fact, my friends adore her. They do find it a little odd that Mom speaks in a different accent. Mom was born and brought up in India. She left India to be with her husband in the Silicon Valley. Although I was born in America, I have always liked the idea of being in India. We went to India about 5 years ago. I saw a cow lazing in the middle of a busy road!!
In order to spruce up my Hindi, I watch Hindi soaps with mom. She has grown increasingly fond of a particular soap called, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The soap has recently been launched on Star Plus. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is a cute story about traditions and changing values. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai focuses on the beauty of arranged marriage. Mom is totally gaga about the serial. I also like Akshara , the lead actress of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai
