Yug is the cutest guy in town!

Last night, I had a big row with my sister Sania. We were fighting over Yug! She said that Yug looked like Prem (Harshad Chopda), the lead actor in Jis Des mein hein mera dil.

To annoy me further she insisted that Prem was cuter than Yug! How could I stand such rubbish? I have fallen in love with Yug the day Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna was aired on Star India Plus.

Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna is a sweet love story being aired on Star Plus. Most of my Indian friends who have shifted base to the US watch Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna. Nach Baliye 4 crowns Shaljit as the winning jodi

It was a feverish evening on Sunday at the sets of Nach Baliye 4. Not only was the air tense with who-is-going-to-win but the presence of Shah Rukh Khan and sensuous Lara Dutta had shot the mercury up. When the lovely jodi of Shaleen and Daljit were declared the winners, David (my American boy friend) asked me to fetch a bottle of champagne.

I could not wait to ring up mom in India. But I wrote her a mail in stead. Thanks to Star Plus I am still connected to India despite living in the US.

It was really witty when the judges were awarded the apt title of “Rakhi Sawant Walkout Award”. The judges had once walked out after the contestants protested against the new rules or rather the twists. My favorite Arjun Rampal was honored with the Great Laughter Champion Award while Karisma Kapoor won the Cut-Cut Queen Award.
Nach Baliye 4 was a great journey. There was good dance, lot of twists and great dhamal. You must tune into Star Plus for some very great desi shows. Star One and Star Plus are available in the US. Finally Shaleen and Daljit have made it to the grand finale of Nach Baliye 4! I always knew the duo would make it to the Maha Mukabala! Both Shaleen and Daljit are hard working and their performance speaks for their dancing skill!

They have always been in the good books of the judges. In fact, I remember once Karishma Kapoor was actually crying when Shaleen and Daljit had not performed well. That is taking the matter too far!! Anyways, I will be flying out of Chicago next weekend for a small reunion with my father’s friend. Seems like he is fixing up a match or something for me!!! But I am going to have fun. Will watch load of movies and of course Nach Baliye !

Vrinda’s love for Yug may be hidden for now but the fire of their love is spreading fast. Vrinda’s love for Yug was revealed once again when she made parathas for Yug, his favorite dish. Someone has very correctly said that the way to win a man’s heart is via his stomach. Keep it up, Vrinda.

“Elimination” a bitter pill to swallow

Emraan Hashmi, the superstar of Bollywood, was given the unenviable job of declaring the names of the couples eliminated from Nach Baliye. He declared the results by painting the eliminated jori’s number. Sudeep and Anantika, jori no.14, was declared as the eliminated jori from Nach Baliye-4; a tragic end to their wonderful performances in the show. We, in the US, definitely didn’t expect such an abrupt end to this wonderful jori.

The alarming effect of N2O, commonly known as laughing gas, is not unknown from anybody. In Sanjeevani hospital of Dill Mill Gaye, almost everyone including Dr. Shubhankar, Dr. Kirti, Ridhimaa, Atul, Muskaan and Anjali were intoxicated by the effect of N2O. The after effects were hilarious. Everybody just broke up. I think so far it was the best episode of Dill Mill Gaye.

I have always liked Dr. Anjali of Dill Mill Gaye. I think she is that one hot chick in the serial, who carries herself really well. I have admired her style from day one. But, in the last episode, she just stole the show with her exquisite pair of stilettos. It was shown when she banged into Atul and Armaan. Those stilettos were just out of the world. I wish I could find one such. Here, in California I hardly get any occasion to wear such stuff. But I will find one if I get such a pair of stilettos.

A few days ago the set of Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi Sajna caught fire. I read on the Internet that the fire engulfed the beautiful house where Vrinda lives. Luckily none of the crew got hurt. Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi Sajna is a lovely tale of Vrinda and Yug who fall in love despite the enmity between the two families. Most of my American friends cannot pronounce Indian names well. It is amazing that Kate can speak good Hindi. Well, that is because she has actually spent her childhood in India.

I can discuss Hindi soaps with her. She compares Yug of Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi Sajna with Jughead just to annoy me! She knows that I am crazy about Yug. Last episode of Nach Baliye 4 was fantastic.Hiten and Gauri introduced Amrita Rao as the special guest on Nach. With the grand finale of Nach round the corner, the contestants appeared to be nervous. In fact the competition has heated up so much that even the erstwhile hot Amrita Rao was looking cool in comparison!! She was promoting her forthcoming movie- Victory. I hope I will be able to watch this movie. When I was in India I used to watch almost all movies. However, after I shifted to America, life has changed a lot. I always feel that I have no time for myself. Anyways, I do allow myself a few luxuries like watching Star TV. Nach Baliye is my favorite show on Star TV. It is a good way to start my weekend. I adored Naman and Megha's performance on tere naina!

Ironically, he is the culprit himself. It’s real fun to watch his idiosyncrasies.

This Friday Nach Baliye presented a huge twist- the contesting jodis went their separate ways! Well, before you wonder what was going on, let me tell you that the theme of this weeks’s Nach Baliye was solo performance. Each baliye in a jodi performed a solo special. The judges scored the performers on a scale of 5 points. The pressure on performing alone was evident on each of the couples. Together Naman-Megha, Kapil-Anjali and Shaleen-Daljit have been performing consistently. Performing a solo was definitely a big challenge. Inspired by the performance I am planning to take up dance classes soon. Anybody out there who knows of a good dancing tutor near Lincoln Square, Chicago IL, let me know.

Last night Annie and I were discussing the sanctity of marriage. “Marriage is not a relationship that develops out of convenience. It is an institution”, interrupted Mom. Mom gets along really well with all my friends. In fact, my friends adore her. They do find it a little odd that Mom speaks in a different accent. Mom was born and brought up in India. She left India to be with her husband in the Silicon Valley. Although I was born in America, I have always liked the idea of being in India. We went to India about 5 years ago. I saw a cow lazing in the middle of a busy road!!

In order to spruce up my Hindi, I watch Hindi soaps with mom. She has grown increasingly fond of a particular soap called, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The soap has recently been launched on Star Plus. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is a cute story about traditions and changing values. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai focuses on the beauty of arranged marriage. Mom is totally gaga about the serial. I also like Akshara , the lead actress of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

Dr Abhimanyu has rightly been awarded the title Hitler by the staff members of Sanjeevani. His strict attitude has not only offended the staff but also the young interns of the Hospital. From the ward boy to the interns, all seem to fear Dr Abhimanyu alike. However, there is one exception in this league, namely Dr Nikki. Not only has she defied him time and again but also made him a subject of joke by smearing cake on his face in front if all of his patients. This daredevil act has, however, not gone down well with Dr Abhimanyu . This promises us a whole new range of interesting spats between them in the upcoming episodes.

Come on Dr Nikki you can do it and bring the proud and arrogant Dr Abhimanyu to the ground. I really do wish to see what happens next between Dr Abhimanyu and Dr Nikki at Dil Mil Gaye in Star One. Moreover, to make things worse, even Dr Shubhankar seems to be convinced that Riddhima’s actual lover is Dr Atul, Armaan’s best friend. Oh God!!! What is going to happen to Armaan’s love? I wish the US government could bail him out too.

My brother and I were fighting on who will win Nach Baliye 4. We both love to watch Nach Baliye 4 aired on Star Plus. My brother’s favourite couple is Naman and Megha while my favourite Jodi is Shaleen and Daljit.

My brother Nikhil cannot discuss about the show with his friends as most of them are Americans. We both discuss and argue about the show. Last week’s theme was famous Bollywood couple. Naman and Megha gave an outstanding performance. They performed in Maine paidal se ja raha tha from the movie Hero No1. They had a tough task because dancing like Govinda (Chichi) and Karishma is difficult. The judges were really impressed by their Nach.

I have often wondered why we watch television. My husband is addicted to CNN and BBC, cartoon network features among the five-things-I-cannot-live-without for my 5 year old and I was satisfied with watching a titbit here and there. However, things have changed in Mehta household since the launch of Yeh Rishta Kya Kya Kehlata Hai. It is a new soap aired on Star Plus.

I really like the story line of Yeh Rishta Kya Kya Kehlata Hai. It is a story of most couples of my generation who are strangers before they say I do. My American friends are astonished by the concept of arranged marriage. When I tell them that I agreed to marry Rishi, I had hardly talked to him for ten minutes. I believe Yeh Rishta Kya Kya Kehlata Hai will reinforce the beauty of Indian culture, tradition and ethics through its simple story.

The competition at Nach Baliye 4 is getting tougher with every passing week. I like watching the performance on Fridays more than on Saturdays. This is because every Saturday one jodi is evicted from the show.

While I was watching Nach Baliye 4 on Saturday, I could feel the tension in air before Hiten announced the bottom two. My favorite jodi Reshmi and Amit were once again in the bottom three. Just before Hiten announced if the duo were in the bottom 2 Reshmi fainted. Everybody was stumped as Reshmi fell down. But soon the doctor came and everything was alright. The couple gave a great performance despite Reshmi’s ill health. Sadly, when the results were announced Amit and Reshmi had to say goodbye and leave the show.

Happy New Year to all of you! My resolution for this year is to follow the footsteps of Farah Khan. No, I do not have any offers to become a judge in any reality show, however I am only trying to lose weight. Farah Khan is looking fabulous in Nach Baliye 4 after she lost five kilos within one month. Before the show was aired Farah followed a strict diet comprising fresh fruits and vegetable juices through the week followed by one day of normal diet.

I have been watching Nach Baliye 4 from the time it started in October last year. I was worried that I would not be able to continue watching Nach Baliye 4 and my other favorite shows that are aired on Star Plus and Star One when I moved to the US to stay with my daughter. However, to my great relief Star Plus and Star One are available in the US as well.

Rakhi Sawant will be participating in the new reality show Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano which is being launched by Star Plus. Rakhi Sawant had featured in Nach Baliye3 with her boy friend Abhishek. The couple had given some great performance. But unfortunately Rakhi could not win the Nach. As expected Rakhi had accused Star Plus of cheating and created a scene. However, it looks like both Rakhi and Star Plus have come over the past misgivings. Now that Rakhi has broken up with Abhishek, the single lady is perhaps ready to mingle again in 2009.

Nach Baliye 4 has been on my must watch list for the last few weeks. I started watching it when I realised that Katherine (my American girlfriend) has been following it to learn few bollywood moves. Until then I did not even know that Star Plus was available in America. Now I have got both these channels through my cable operator. So far my favorite couple is Shaleen and Daljit. The couple also known as Shajit have been scoring high on most episodes. However, the duo has been faltering in the recent episodes. It was Katherine who told me that Shaleen’s migraine is taking a toll on their performance.

Star Plus brings Tujh Sang Preet Lagai

Kunal Verma and Pooja Bose, the lead actors of Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna) recently met with an accident during the shooting. The duo was rushed to the hospital after they fell off a bike while shooting for a scene. In the scene Kunal who is Yug and Pooja who is Vrinda were riding on a bike. Yug had offered a ride to Vrinda. The gesture of sweet love however turned into a sour experience when Yug lost the balance. Thankfully Vrinda and Yug suffered only minor injuries.

Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna is a sweet love story being aired on Star Plus. Most of my Indian friends who have shifted base to the US watch Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna. You can tune into Star India Plus at 10 pm Monday through Thursday to watch this soap. It is good that Star India Plusis available in the US. Some very good programs are aired on Star India Plus.

I have often wondered what love means. My American friends laugh at me when I try to philosophize on it. Perhaps because I told them that love marriages were quite rare in India. They find the concept of arranged marriage weird. Even though we have settled in the US for a long time now, my parents still stick to the Indian values. Perhaps that is why mom and dad do not feel exhilarated when they celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. For a US society 25 years of togetherness looks quite a hard work, however it is so different in India. Last night while watching Salam e ishq with mom and dad, I realized how different Indian couples are from American couples.

Star Plus is presenting Mauja Hi Mauja-Bollywood Ka Sabse Bada Tamasha on 31 December at 2200 hours. The idea behind the grand concert is to salute the brave-hearts who combated the recent terror attack in Mumbai. The terrorist strike in Mumbai has left behind a huge scar. My friends in the US who have family living in Mumbai were aghast at the news of terror attacks. Those were difficult days when all Indians prayed together.
It is a great gesture made by the Indian actors to have decided to dedicate the 31st December to the Mumbai police force. The big shots of Bollywood and the who is who of television industry will be presenting a funfilled program to the Mumbai police and their family. There will be performances by the likes of King Khan, Hrithik, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Govinda, Madhur Bhandarkar, Shreyas Talpade, Neetu Chandra, Neha Dhupia, Shaan, Himmesh Reshamiya, Adnan Sami, Kim Sharma, Jonny Lever, Mona Singh, Tina and Hussain.

Pehchan Kaun? New show!

As the eventful 2008 comes to an end, channels are gearing up for new TV shows. I heard that Star One is set to launch a new reality show called Pehchan Kaun sometime around December. This is the first of its kind 'original' hunt for India's Best Impersonator.

The show seeks contestants who can copy the style and voice and come closest to mimicking their favorite celebrity. The contestants will be judged on the basis of: likeness quotient, voice similarity, and entertainment quotient.

Pehchan Kaun reminds me of the American television series called ‘The Next Best Thing: Who is the Greatest Celebrity Impersonator,’ which is equally impressive and a fun-to-watch show.

I think Pehchan Kaun is going to be very different from the regular Indian reality shows, which focus mostly on song and dance competitions. The show format sounds interesting and it will be great to see contestants impersonating well-known celebs, which include not only actors and actresses, but also politicians and other prolific figures (now this sounds interesting). I am also interested to see how these contestants impersonate female celebrities, which is quite rare and much tougher to do.

The show, however, does not focus solely on impersonation, it also features sample acts like putting the contestants in particular situations and asking them to act out skits (now this is where it gets interesting).

Firstly, Pehchan Kaun is a one of a kind show and has all the ingredients to be popular. Secondly, this show is miles apart from the regular ‘dramatized’ reality shows and has a completely different theme. This show has already grabbed my attention and I will definitely be watching it.

I do admit that I am a huge fan of reality shows, especially dance competitions. After being fed on to a steady dose of dance reality shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars my interest in these genre of shows just increased. I have been watching several Indian dance reality shows such as Jhalak Dikhlaja (Indian version of Dancing with the Stars) and Nach Baliye for a very long time. Among all of them, Nach Baliye is my favorite show.

Nach Baliye is a celebrity dance competition, which features 12, two-person teams of real-life celebrity couples dancing (actually fighting) their way to victory. However, only one team will win and take home the Nach Baliye cup. This show has received my undivided viewership since it started and it is coming up with its fourth installment, Nach Baliye 4.

Nach Baliye 4 will feature the regular format of 12 teams and one team will get eliminated every week. However, the new season will see some new judges – Farah Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Arjun Rampal. It’s great to see Karisma Kapoor, who says it’s not her comeback, and Farah Khan, who has already judged Jhalak Dikhlaja, on the judge’s seats. The real ‘cracker’ here is Arjun Rampal, whose judging and dancing skills I am eager to see.

Last season's winners Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aamir Ali will host the show.

Contestants of Nach Baliye 4 are Karnvir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu, Abhijeet Sawant and wife Shilpa, Jatin Shah and Priya, Shaleen Bhanot and Daljeet Kaur, Reshmi Ghosh and Amit Gupta, Naman Shaw and Megha Gupta, Mouli Ganguly and Mazher, Mohit Malik and Aditte Shirwaker, Sudeep Sahir and Anantika Sahir, Vineet and Tanushree, Kapil Nirmal and Anjali Abrol and Jaspal Bhatti and his wife Savitha.

Of all the performances, I am looking forward to the performance by Jaspal Bhatti. This show seems exciting and is a definite ‘must watch’ for me.
